Description

For the love of the game, there are various ways allowable to game lovers to be able to play the games they loved like Pokemon GO even on the PC. The Pokemon GO game has been trending for a while now and is one of the most played games in the last few years.

The game broke quite a few records and remains one of the most sought after in terms of its game play and engagement levels.

Pokemon remains one of the most trending games on smartphones but it is not readily available on PC. In fact, you can only get to play it on PC if you use emulators and downloaded PS2 ROMs which you can get from sites like LoveROMs which comes highly recommended. The advantages of playing online Pokemon games on the PC include the screen size and configurable controls which the emulator can offer game players.

Using Emulators

However, these days, it could be possible for one to relive the moments with the Pokemon game as well with the help of emulators. Essentially, emulators work to emulate outdated gaming consoles, ensuring users are able to play games from those consoles directly on their PCs without using the actual console itself. Emulators work by reading the game’s disc image using special software, with the computer as a display and storage system, allowing the emulator to be used as a game console. They also allow for a lot of benefits when compared to classic gaming consoles. Game players can go ahead to use the filtering, resolution and shader tweaks to play games and enhance the quality of graphics of their games so as to closely mirror the quality as demanded by modern gaming.

To be able to play a game while using an emulator, one would require a CD ROM which works as a game cartridge, working to compact a games memory into what becomes a usable and readable ISO file. Such files can then be used as copies of the original game files. These ROMs working through emulators then allow users to be able to play the games. These are then only usable with specific software or even a process referred to as mounting.

Emulators also need BIOS files to be able to function properly. The BIOS information for PC and that for game consoles are slightly different and cannot be interchanged. The BIOS on your emulator will dictate the version of your console just like a Japanese BIOS will allow for Japanese language during game play and American BIOS will allow for English language during game play.

Furthermore, and as with everything else, there is a lot of emulators to choose from. An emulator’s quality is dependent on its stability as well as other factors. Definitely, emulators are different and some work to ensure smooth gameplay while others may not work well to enable you to use the ROM and this is not just about PC emulators alone, but the mobile ones too.

Getting ROMs

Once you are sorted with the right emulator, the next thing will be to get the right ROMs. These can be acquired from certain websites including ROMHustler, CoolROM and a host of other sites. You can also download ROMs at ROMsMania.  Each site has a large selection of ROMs which you can choose from as you wish. These ROMs will represent or resemble original Pokemon games from the past and are just compressed versions that can be much more easily distributed than the original Pokemon game.

How you proceed to use these ROMs remains entirely your decision as they usually come as .iso or .rar files. On your PC, and if you use Windows 10, you can go ahead to load .iso files directly without using or requiring a third-party program or even a CD/DVD burned for the purpose. For other versions of Windows, you may need to find and download a third-party program like MagicISO to be able to play these ROMs or even ImgBurn to go ahead and burn .iso files to CD. For .rar files you can use a file opener program such as 7Zip to extract the .rar archive within the emulator where you can then open the extracted file.

Although they are quite a number of emulators that could come highly recommended, for this use case, we would be looking at how to use the Nintendo DS emulator which is available for both Mac and Windows devices to play the Pokemon Go game on PC. The steps are as highlighted below;

  1. Firstly, you open the DeSmuME ZIP folder and then extract from downloaded ZIP.
  2. Then, you proceed to open the DeSmuME application file which opens the emulator.
  3. When you click on the file, there is a tab in the top-left corner of the DeSmuME window which allows a drop-down menu to appear.
  4. Then click Open ROM, after which you can select the downloaded ROM and then click to open.

You should be able to play the game if you follow these steps as well as view a list of the emulators keyboard controls when you click the Config tab and then click the Control Config function in the drop-down menu that shows up.

With the evolution of technology, it is quite easy to relive moments, especially for those who  want to play Pokemon GO game on their PC and recall how they were so in love with at some point when it was one of the top games available.
